That being said, you know what you want your stories to feel like - and if one doesn't feel like you want it to, then you shouldn't feel any qualms about pulling it. If it is a story that needs to be told, you'll figure a way to get there. If it's not, that's all good too - as you say, sometimes the characters' lives need to be written, but that doesn't mean they need to be read... I've self-published a few books that I've considered pulling too, but those are the books that taught me how to write novels, and I like having them out in the world for anyone to pick up and serve as a roadmap of my writing journey.
